TOKYO, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) on Thursday continued to issue warnings of mudslides and flooding in southwest Japan amid torrential downpours that have left a second woman dead in Kagoshima Prefecture.

In the city of Soo, in northeast Kagoshima Prefecture, local rescue officials said Thursday a woman was killed after her home was hit by a landslide.

In Kagoshima City, a woman in her 70s also lost her life on Monday when her house was similarly engulfed by a mudslide, officials said.

As of Thursday 4:00 p.m. local time, 793,000 people in Kagoshima Prefecture had been ordered to evacuate.

By 11:00 a.m. local time in Miyazaki Prefecture, however, all evacuation orders and advisories had been lifted, the prefectural government said.

The JMA is still warning of heavy downpours in the next 24 hours through midday Friday.

On Tanegashima and Yakushima islands in Kagoshima, 120 mm of rain is expected and in the Kanto-Koshin region the agency has forecast 100 mm of rain.

Meanwhile in the Tokai region, the JMA said that 70 mm of rain has been forecast.

The agency also said that eastern Japan has been affected by the weather front as of Thursday afternoon and has experienced strong gusts and downpours as the low atmospheric pressure has approached the region.
