WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has been released from a hospital following a fall that resulted in a pelvic fracture, the Carter Center said Thursday.

"He is looking forward to continuing to recuperate at his home in Plains, Georgia, and thanks everyone for their kind well wishes," the Carter Center said in a statement.

Carter, 95, fell at his home earlier this week, suffering a pelvic fracture.

He has suffered several other falls in recent years but has been able to return to his normal life and activities.

Carter, who served for one term between 1977 to 1981, became the oldest living U.S. president in March.

He oversaw the normalization of diplomatic ties between the United States and China 40 years ago.

The Democrat was diagnosed in 2015 with melanoma of brain and liver. He said months later that an MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging) scan showed that his cancer was gone after treatment.
