LONDON, March 7 (Xinhua) -- A third of Britain's electricity will be produced by offshore wind power by 2030, according to a release issued on Thursday by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Britain will invest 250 million pounds (327.5 million U.S. dollars) to develop the country's supply chain, with global exports set to increase fivefold to 2.6 billion pounds by 2030, said the release.

As part of the country's modern Industrial Strategy, Britain aims to become a global leader in renewable sectors with more investment potential than any other country in the world.

A total 70 percent of the country's electricity is predicted to be generated from low-carbon sources by 2030. This would require over 40 billion pounds worth of infrastructure investment across the UK.

Claire Perry, British energy and clean growth minister, said: "This new sector deal will drive a surge in the clean, green offshore wind revolution that is powering homes and businesses across the UK, bringing investment into coastal communities and ensuring we maintain our position as global leaders in this growing sector."

The minister believed that by 2030, a third of UK electricity will come from offshore wind, generating thousands of high-quality jobs across the country, a strong UK supply chain and a fivefold increase in exports. "This is our modern Industrial Strategy in action," Perry noted.
