MEXICO CITY, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Tuesday once again urged the Venezuelan ruling socialist party and the right-wing opposition to hold talks and find a peaceful solution.

Lopez Obrador reiterated his neutral position during a daily press conference, saying that Mexico is willing to mediate to find a peaceful solution if the two parties request it.

"Mexico will always be in a position to help in the implementation of a dialogue to achieve peace in any nation," said Lopez Obrador, adding that "our country's doors will be open for dialogue."

On Monday, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence announced new economic and diplomatic sanctions against Venezuelan officials loyal to President Nicolas Maduro.

He also called on Mexico and Uruguay to abandon their neutral stance and take a position on the situation in Venezuela.

Responding to Pence's remarks, Lopez Obrador said his government has not been pressured by the U.S. to change its stance.

Venezuela has been in political tension since Jan. 23 when National Assembly President Juan Guaido declared himself interim president and was recognized by the United States and some other countries.

Mexico and Uruguay have refused to recognize Guaido, declaring themselves neutral and calling for crisis settlement through dialogue.
