SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in Indian-controlled Kashmir Saturday beefed up security ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the restive region, officials said.

According to local government officials, Modi is scheduled to visit the region to inaugurate some developmental projects and lay foundation stones of new ones.

"The prime minister is visiting here tomorrow and he would be visiting the twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar," a government spokesman said.

A senior police official said multi-tier security arrangement has been put in place across the region to thwart any possible militant attack during the day-long visit by Modi.

On Friday, the government forces conducted a security drill in the Lal Chowk (red square), the main business hub of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, as part of operational preparedness.

Contingents of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police arrived at the city centre and conducted an area domination drill.

Reports said the government forces used quadcopter drones fitted with cameras to monitor the movements in and around the city centre. The surveillance exercise continued for hours together.

Policemen were seen frisking vehicles and commuters entering Srinagar city.

Officials have also diverted traffic from certain routes to ensure complete security of main venue in Srinagar, the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) on the banks of Dal Lake.

In the region's winter capital Jammu, policemen intensified frisking of commuters and put up static and mobile checking points to keep a vigil.

According to officials, Modi is scheduled to address a public rally in Vijaypur in Samba district.
