PRAGUE, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Jaroslav Silhavy became the new coach of Czech national football's team as successor to Karel Jarolim, as announced by Czech Football Association (FACR) representatives on Tuesday at a press conference.

The 56-year-old Silhavy is the former coach of Liberec and Slavia Praha, and he will lead the Czech national team for the first time in mid-October when the Czechs are to play in the Nations League matches in Slovakia and Ukraine.

"I believe we can convince people that football here is not as bad as it is now. I do not believe we have forgotten to play football," Silhavy was quoted as saying.

Silhavy played 465 League matches in various clubs, such as Plzen, Cheb, Slavia, Drnovice and Zizkov. He ended his career as a footballer in 1999 and started working as a coach. In 2001-2009, Silhavy worked as an assistant to the national team's coaches, Karel Bruckner and Petr Rada. He has been without a coaching post since the beginning of the year.

Jarolim ended his position as Czech national team coach after the team lost 5-1 to Russia in a friendly match last week in Rostov-on-Don, which was the team's worst result in history.
