DUBAI, July 10 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday met with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation in various fields, including fighting terrorism.

The crown prince, also deputy supreme commander of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Armed Forces, and Pompeo discussed means "to deepen bilateral relations, strategic cooperation and coordination in various fields," the official news agency WAM reported.

These fields included "joint efforts to confront extremism, terrorism and its affiliated groups," the report said.

They also explored ways to enhance security and stability and achieve peace in the region, it added.

The UAE government said in May it endorses the U.S. withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The two politicians also reviewed the latest developments in the Middle East and their impact on the security and stability, as well as other international issues of mutual interest.

The U.S. backs the Saudi-led military campaign, of which the UAE is an active member, in Yemen to fight the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

The meeting was also attended by UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
