RABAT, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita called Tuesday in the Moroccan city of Skhirate for addressing the root causes of terrorism in Africa.

At the opening of the regional meeting of the global coalition to defeat the Islamic State (IS), he stressed that the effectiveness of the fight against terrorism in Africa "requires adequate consideration of the root causes of this scourge ... without which our action will remain in vain."

The Moroccan minister warned against the redeployment of IS fighters from the Middle East to Africa, emphasizing the need for setting up a form of cooperation with African countries.

Bourita also mentioned that his country is committed to an innovative model of cooperation with other African nations for "a true global partnership with the purpose of a lasting stability of the continent and putting the African citizen at the center of our common action."

The meeting, the first of its kind in the context of coalition action, brings together African countries as well as relevant regional and international organizations.

The meeting aims to review the development of the IS threat in Africa and explores possible ways of cooperating and strengthening synergies between various stakeholders to cope with them.

Formed in September 2014, the coalition gathers 75 countries, aiming to degrade and ultimately defeat the IS.
