KHARTOUM, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of displaced people in Sudan's Central Darfur State took refuge at a base of the UN African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) after clashes broke out between Sudanese army and an armed group, the mission said Wednesday.

"In the evening of June 15, 2018, displaced persons started gathering outside UNAMID's newly established Temporary Operating Base in the Golo locality, of the Jebel Marra area, central Darfur," said UNAMID in a statement.

On June 16, 305 internally displaced people, including 200 children and 85 women, started erecting temporary shelters outside the base, it said.

It noted that the staff at the UNAMID Golo base provided protection and water to the displaced people, as well as first aid to a woman who gave birth near the base.

Clashes between government forces and Sudanese Liberation Army Abdul Wahid elements continued in the Jebel Marra area between June 13 and 16, with casualties on both sides as well as further civilian displacement, the statement said.
