TOKYO, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and visiting South Korean President Moon Jae-in exchanged views on promoting bilateral relationship as well as peace on the Korean Peninsula during a meeting here on Wednesday.

According to Japan's Kyodo News, Abe and Moon exchanged views on the outcomes of the recent inter-Korean summit and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

Abe said the timing of easing or removing sanctions on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is important and concrete measures should be taken after the DPRK closes its nuclear test site.

Moon said denuclearization of the peninsula still faces difficulties regarding in what way it could be achieved.

The two sides agreed to further enhance communication and cooperation and urge the DPRK to realize denuclearization, and safeguard long-term peace of the peninsula.

As this year marks the 20th anniversary of the Japan-South Korea Joint Declaration, the two sides also agreed to promote regional peace and stability through shuttle diplomacy and cooperation.
