JAKARTA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's westernmost province of Aceh plans to hold an international running event dubbed the 2018 Aceh Marathon in July of this year, promising the nation's largest total reward for runners who come out on top, an Aceh provincial official said today.

"We have allocated 3 billion rupiah (about 218,450 U.S. Dollars) for the reward. This amount will make the Aceh Marathon boast the largest total prize in the country," Aceh Deputy Governor Nova Iriansyah said in a press conference here on Sunday.

The 2018 Aceh Marathon is slated for July 29 in the province's resort island of Weh, and is intended to promote further tourism in Aceh, he added.

The 42.195 kilometers route will be designed to pass through beautiful spots across the island, and is expected to attract foreign runners.

Some 1,500 runners have registered so far to take part in the province's initial international marathon event.
