BEIRUT, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Monday called for building a robust e-government that "prevents corruption and fraud."

"Digital government transformation secures transparency of the administration and prevents all kinds of bribery and obstruction and prevents forgery," said Aoun at the opening of the Digital Government Conference 2018 at the Beirut Intercontinental Phoenicia Hotel.

"Combating corruption is necessary at all levels because it harms the reputation of the state as a whole, and impacts the citizen's trust in its official institutions and obstructs the work process," he added.

The Lebanese president also pointed to his oath of office in which he highlighted the need to transform the Lebanese government into an e-government.

"It is part of my economic reform plan because this is the gateway to modernize the state to combat corruption and also to reduce brain drain," Aoun explained.

The Digital Government Conference 2018 aims to share experiences from the delivery of existing digital projects, and assess the current strategic approach to e-government, in order to adopt best international practices for the future delivery of government digital information and services.
