TOKYO, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday on the back of U.S. shares rising overnight, while 's (Oct.-Dec.) gross domestic product data coming in below median analysts' expectations prior to the start of trade had a negligible effect.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 48.44 points, or 0.23 percent, from Tuesday to 21,293.12.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 3.92 points, or 0.23 percent, at 1,720.70.

Oil and coal product, securities and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
