NEW DELHI, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese cultural show in New Delhi to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Dog, or Spring Festival, turned out to be a packed-house on Friday night, with over 1,000 people acclaiming the Chinese artists.

The event was organized by the Chinese embassy here in association with the "China National Tourist Office" and the "India-China Economic and Cultural Council." It was sponsored by China's Ministry of Culture. Chinese Ambassador in India Luo Zhaohui and Prof. Lokesh Chandra, Chairman of Nehru Memorial Museum, attended the gala event too.

Mesmerized by the performances, the Indian audience were seen capturing the moments in their camera mobile phones and cheering the performers, particularly the "Ballet on Shoulders," "Thousand Hands Bodhisatva" and "Blooming Jasmines."

Performed by Chinese artists from "Liuzhou Arts Theatre" and the Guangxi Acrobatic Troupe Company Limited, the dance, music and solo shows were a hit among the Indian audience, which included art and culture lovers, students, and locals. The event which was thrown open for the public on a first-come-first-serve basis, was an instant attraction for the Delhi citizens.

Surabhi Bansal, a student of Chinese studies in Delhi-based Jawaharlal Nehru University, hoped that such art and cultural programs could be organized more frequently here so as to increase people-to-people contacts.

"Such programs act as confidence buildings measures between two countries, especially for those who have had rifts or frictions in the past," she added.
