TBILISI, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Georgia has taken measures to stimulate its e-commerce industry as one of the country's biggest electronic commerce platform will be launched in May, said the country's Economy Minister Dimitry Kumsishvili here on Thursday.

The minister said at an international e-commerce conference that the new platform will allow local small and medium businesses to order or sell products and services in Georgia and abroad, with the Georgian Post in charge of the delivery.

"There are many successful examples of how different e-commerce companies have changed consumers' habits and behaviors," Kumsishvili said, referring to the success of Alibaba and Amazon.

"In this regard, the launch and further development of the electronic commerce platform in Georgia is of utmost importance," he added.

Kumsishvili said too that a new law on e-commerce will come into effect this year, which will better protect consumers' rights and personal data.
